The Engineering profession in Kenya operates within stringent legal and ethical standards defined by the Engineers Act 2011, Engineers Rules 2019, and various policies & standards developed by the Board. These come with significant implications for individual practice, project delivery, and public safety. Recent cases of structural failures, project delays, and professional misconduct investigations highlight critical gaps in understanding legal obligations and compliance mechanisms. This training provides essential knowledge for engineers to navigate their statutory duties, maintain EBK compliance, and protect their professional standing while ensuring public welfare and infrastructure integrity.
The built environment is regulated by the Board, the National Construction Authority (NCA) & the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (BORAQS). Distinct roles played by the regulators cumulatively ascertain compliance with set policies and standards in the built environment. They, therefore, come together to sensitize professionals in the built environment on the policies and standards required to ascertain quality, safety and economic viability of projects in the built environment.
As the umbrella body for consulting engineers, the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya (ACEK) brings together experienced practitioners who routinely apply legal, ethical, and professional obligations in real project environments, enabling them to translate statutory requirements into practical, case-based learning. The Association is joined with regulators in this training workshop to ensure engineers gain a clear understanding of accountability, professional conduct, and risk management, thereby reducing non-compliance and enhancing public safety
