Whilst large projects commence with environmental and social impact assessment studies being carried, failure to adequately and appropriately address social and community issues in good time has resulted in project delays and attendant cost escalations. For big projects worth billions of shillings, the additional costs could rise to enormous figures which affect the economics of the projects. Stakeholder consultation and involvement of affected persons and local leaders helps in creating goodwill for the project and also in resolving community issues and positively contributing to the success of the project.
